Alright, I feel like I should apologize for not keeping up with this blog-thingy. Work + activism/organizing + moving makes for a busy Steve. Here’s the latest on what’s happening in my life.
Dino and I recently moved to Roosevelt Island. We have a fantabulous view of the East River and Manhattan-proper from our apartment.
I sometimes find time to enjoy that view, even though work, conferences, classes, etc. are so fucking time-consuming. My current 9-to-5 is an independent contractor gig doing Java-programming for a well-known media giant. Nothing horribly exciting to blog about there, but the pay is good and I enjoy doing the work. I’ve also taken a job developing for an online journal. More on that later.
The activism stuff has basically just been tabling at conferences and events, along with the occasional protest thrown in. I should have some more to say on that very soon as well. Exciting things are happening.
Also, I’ve started taking a class on Volume 1 of Capital at the New SPACE. Also also, I’ve recently decided to better educate myself on anarchism. Not that I’m giving up on Marxism; quite the contrary. On my short-list of books to read are No Gods No Masters: An Anthology of Anarchism, Post-Scarcity Anarchism by Murray Bookchin, and The Conquest of Bread by Peter Kropotkin. I also intend to get to Making a Killing: The Political Economy of Animal Rights by Bob Torres and Reclaiming Marx’s “Capital”: A Refutation of the Myth or Inconsistency by Andrew Kliman. But I want to get through Capital before I return to the last two books.
Right now, I need to get back to the random chores I want to get done today. I love days off. I’ll be back soon.
