Too much net-surfing, not enough time

Posted by rantingsteve on December 21, 2006

The Internets are ruining my life. I’m on sites I never dreamed I’d be on. I’m on friggin’ MySpace, FFS! I’m also on other forums and networking sites. I spend way too much time wondering why people haven’t responded to friend requests yet. It’s so silly, I forget that people have better things to do, including myself.

I went to yet another church last Sunday, this time it was a Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The service was nice, albeit a little boring. They had a fellowship dinner following the service. I explained I’m a vegan and don’t go to any meals where meat is served. So I went home. I can’t stand to be in the presence of people as they’re eating flesh. I can barely stand to be in the presence of vegetarians as they’re eating eggs or dairy. Why do people find it so difficult to extend basic compassion to those outside their own species? I think most people would go vegan if they had to do the dirty business of “food” acquisition themselves.

My PC is on the fritz. I need to replace the heatsink. It’s easy enough to do once I can get around to getting the replacement part. In the meantime, I’m on an old Mac iBook. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t so slow and the touchpad wasn’t so friggin’ sensitive. Every time I’m typing something, the cursor will jump to wherever the pointer is, and I get annoyed.

Christmas day I’ll be flying back up North to see my friends and family. I haven’t seen them since moving down here in August. It’ll be nice to see everyone, but I’m going to miss my husband, who is staying home because he can’t handle the cold.

Work, Life, the Internets, and Church

Posted by rantingsteve on December 3, 2006

After having the week from hell, only indirectly related to work, I’ve decided I need to find another job.   (Actually, this is misleading.  I already knew I needed to find another job, but I’ve decided that the need is much more urgent than I had anticipated.)  Yesterday I gave my 2 weeks notice. I’m good at what I do and I like the people I work with, but I fucking hate being a part of this system, especially this time of year. I hate having to touch meat every single day. I am qualified to do so much more rewarding work.

So anyways, like I was saying, it’s been a week from hell, but I’ve learned a few things. I am in fact qualified to teach in the public schools in Florida. Also, I’ve been going about the job search thing all the wrong way. Now I have my resumes revised an a new plan of attack.

People have been getting on my nerves lately, much more than they should. So for a brief while, I’ve arranged to have myself “banned” from the VeganFreak Forums. I did this in order to keep myself from reading things that will aggravate me, or doing something undiplomatic and unbecoming of a moderator. Don’t worry, friends. I will be back before you know it.

I went to a church I wouldn’t normally go to. If there is one thing that aggrivates me, it’s anyone that claims to have a monopoly on the truth, and prays for the conversion of others. I left before I had an oppurtunity to socialize with anyone. The problem is, the churches I’d be comfortable going to are 4+ miles away. Without a car or other means of transportation (Don’t even ask about my bike. Like I said, week from hell. Grr.), I’d rather stay home. I have no problem with that, but (for me, anyways) it’s nice to go to church once in a while.
