I have a job at Target. At least, I will once the background check and drug test results are in their hands. It will be my first “full-time” job. For those of you who don’t know the irony of the situation, my last job was teaching at a University as an “adjunct.” I was expected to teach up to 3 classes, be paid sporadically, and get no benefits. Four classes is a full load, but when you are in the situation I was in, 3 classes feels like full-time employment, and not getting paid until the 8th week of class makes it feel like you’re working for free.
There are jobs in my field, but very few entry-level positions, and most of them are in Miami, which would be a hellish commute even if I had a car. Someone suggested I lie on my resume to make it look as though I have more experience than I actually do; I don’t want to do that. I was looking into teaching high school math, but I am not qualified to get the temporary teaching certificate. The permanent certificate requires me to take a standardized test, and I’m getting tired of having to keep paying fees to the bureaucracy.
The two nearest colleges have openings for the following year, and I am applying there. But right now, I’m just glad to have a job.
Even with my background, I don’t feel this sort of work is beneath me. It’s a job. It’ll allow me to interact with people, and make some money, which is more than I’m doing now. I’m at the point where I’m getting a little tired of people saying “You need to apply here and try to get this job,” or “You haven’t been trying hard enough to get a decent job.” I know they are trying to help, but I wish they would back off. After being in the situation I’m in now for over 3 months, I’m fucking tired of it all.

I truly think he is the only journalist (in the mainstream media) who has a spine.
