I’m a heartless bastard.

Posted by rantingsteve on August 30, 2006

I have no soul and I’m cursed with one hundred years bad luck. I also will never find my soulmate. (In spite of the fact that I’m happily married to the man of my dreams.) I will never be able to find employment again, and I’m sure I’m going to die in a freak accident any day now. I know all this because countless e-mails that have been forwarded to me have told me all this will happen if I “break the chain” and don’t pass on the message to everyone I know.

What pisses me off more than the sappy trite that people forward to me, is the occasional jingoistic, brainless, if-you-don’t-forward-this-you-must-hate-America garbage people sometimes send me. Sometimes these e-mails play on the emotions of people by referencing 9/11. They are typically racist, discriminatory against Muslims, non-English speaking peoples, and immigrants.

What follows is in response to all the garbage e-mails I receive, and the random garbage that’s floating around elsewhere on the Internets:

I ‘m currently living in a part of the United States where a good portion of the population speak Spanish. Because of that, I’m going to start learning Spanish. I’m not going to insist that people learn English to live in “my” country. This country is as much theirs as it is mine.

The vast majority of devout Muslims are not terrorists. The ACLU is not out to destroy religion. Being critical of our president, our government, the war, and the actions of troops serving in those wars, does not a terrorist make.

I have better things to do with my time than read and propagate garbage. Please keep it out of my inbox.

my first 48-hours living in Florida

Posted by rantingsteve on August 9, 2006

Dino and I arrived at the Ft. Lauderdale airport at around 2:00 AM Monday.  We stayed up until a rediculous hour chatting with Amma.  Then we went to sleep.

Dino somehow managed to get to work that morning.  I slept until 10:00 thanks to jetlag and our rediculous trip in.  (We must remember to never fly anywhere on a Sunday!  I don’t know how my Love puts up with all the weekend traveling he’s done.)  When I got up, I started working on our room.  (And there is a lot of work to do!)

Amma made dosa, which I happily ate with the coconut chutney and mango pickle.  I now know where Dino gets his cooking abilities from.  I really married into the right family! <3

That evening we went out for dinner with some friends.  After eating ourselves silly, we went back home.  It wasn’t very late, but after work and lack of caffeine, we decided to go to sleep early.

Today I woke up with Dino and went with him to work.  I found coffee at the bagel place and went hunting around.  By the time lunch came around, I had applied for the Ph.D. program in Computer Science, and got a tour of the campus.  The rest of the day consisted of meeting more people and playing D&D.  Now it’s late, I’m tired, and ready for bed.
